Rainy, Yucky Monday!

Happy Monday! What a lovely, dreary start to the week. It really is hard to get motivated in weather like this, but none-the-less, we must go about our day. Friday afternoon/evening were about the same as far as the weather is concerned. Will and I tried out a new burger restuarant in town, Burger Tavern 77. They offer gourmet burgers in a fun atmosphere. I thought the food was pretty good, not as good as other restuarants in town. We do like trying new places, so this one is checked off the list. We will probably go back and give it another try. Saturday morning was spent visiting Will's fmaily and running errands. I did go by Bumble Boutique and pick out my diaper bag. I am in love!! It is fully functional and fashionable. It has great pockets, storage, and 3 different strp options. I love the pattern, as well.

Sometime Saturday mid-morning, Will got a wild hair and decided that he wanted to go to Clemson for the baseball game. His family was instantly on board. It took a little while for me to be convinced- I am not a very spur-of-the-moment kind of girl. A few hours later, we were all packed in the car ready to make the drive to Clemson. We had plenty of warm clothes, hats, and blankets. I am glad we did, because it turned out to be a very chillly, blustery afternoon/evening at the ball field. The Tigers won the game, and we headed home. I did end up having a good time, despite my hesitation to go on the trip. I'm glad we got to spend the day/evening with Will's family in their favorite place. Sunday, we played hooky from church and spent a LAZY day at home. We spent the entire day on the couch. It was fabulous!! I did manage to get laundry done and work on my cross-stitch, so it wasn't a total wash. I had planned on being lazy and watching the Daytona 500, but it was on constant rain delay, so we just never motivated to do anything. It was a nice change from our usual busy weekends. I hope it clears up this week, I would love to see the sunshine out of my office window instead of the dreary rain.

Lenten Challenge

Today is Ash Wednesday, which begins the season of Lent. I have struggled this year with what my "giving up" would be. In the past, I have given up Diet Coke or fried foods. Being pregnant, I have already given up my Diet Cokes, at least the caffeinated ones anyways. I really haven't been eating much fried food, except for occasionally on the weekends. I have decided not to give anything up this year, but instead to take on something new. I am going to have "me time" at least 3 times a week. My definition of "me time" is time that I spend doing something productive that I enjoy. For example, I am working on a Beatrice Potter alphabet for Sawyer's room, and I really need to focus on getting it done. Usually in the evenings, when I would probably work on it, I end up on the couch, zoning out and watching tv. I need to create time in my day to get things done and be productive. It may not be working on my cross-stitch, it may be working on Sawyer's scrapbook or going for a 30 minute walk. I love spending time with Will in the evenings, because we are both at work during the day. I don't want to take the time from him, but I think I really need to do this for me. I know that when Sawyer arrives, there will be no "me time." Everything will revolve around him. I know as he gets older, and we get adjusted, I can slowly add my "me time" back in to our schedule. I don't think I am taking on this time for selfish reasons, I am just trying to get more out of my days. I think it will be a challenge because normally I don't like to do things by myself. I like to do things that Will and I can do together or with family and friends. So, as I take on this new adventure of "me time," I hope that I can actually get a few projects completed. I think I just want to learn to use my time more wisely.

Long Weekend Wrap-up

Will and I spent the weekend in the mountains near Hendersonville, NC with friends and family from church. We had a great time of fellowship and relaxation. We arrived in Hendersonville around dinner time on Friday. We quickly ate, then unpacked. We spent the evening catching up with friends. Saturday was a beautiful, chilly day. We walked around the grounds a good bit, had lunch, which was followed by an almost 3 hour nap for me. I felt very refreshed! The evening was spent at a cookout and more fellowship. Sunday was rainy and time to go home. I was so glad to get away for the weekend! Monday was President's Day, so I had the day off from work. I had made plans to spend the day with my mom. We started off with my doctor's appt in the morning. We got a great report and heard Sawyer's heartbeat (in the 150s). Next, we headed out to Buy Buy Baby, so Mom could look at some of the things we registered for and also look for a few things for her house for Sawyer. We followed that trip up with a stop at a church friend's house. She is generously letting us use her Graco snap n go stroller, bassinet, and a few other baby things. We ended our afternoon with a yummy lunch. I also went to get a much needed haircut. After my haircut, I had some time before Will came home from work, so I stopped by Little Lambs and Ivy on Devine St. to see about registering there. Mom joined me and we picked several adorable outfits, other necessities, and a few not so necessary items. We also picked out Sawyer's coming-home-from-the-hospital outfit. Precious!! I can't wait to see him in it. What a busy day! Sometimes you just have to squeeze everything in when you get a chance. It's always nice to have a day off from work, even if it is jammed pack with things to do.

Nursery News

This weekend, Will and I worked on a couple of nursery projects. For my project, I painted Sawyer's name letters. I had gone back and forth between painting the letters white or navy blue. I finally decided on navy, and I glad I did. They really pop off of the blue walls and white shelves.

Will's project was putting up the shelves. His dad and brother came over on Sunday and they got them hung and level. I love them. We have a few pictures and trinkets already on them, but I'm sure we will add more things. When we hung them, I tried to think about how tall he will be when he is pulling up. I know at that point the mattress will be lowered, so it shouldn't be an issue with him pulling them down.

The only other things that we really need to work on are the pillow shams and curtains. I still haven't gotten around to picking out  fabric for them yet. Sawyer has already collected a small mountain of clothes that need to be washed, but I think I am going to wait until after our baby showers and wash all of the clothes at one time. Another thing we did this weekend was to register for baby items. We went to Target and Buy Buy Baby. I think we have selected just about everything we and Sawyer will need. We picked out clothes, toys, feeding items, safety items, crib sheets, travel items, stroller, car seat, etc. I think we have everything covered. If not, we can fill in the gaps once he gets here. I can't thank our family and friends enough! We are having 4 baby showers! My dear friend and her mom are hosting one, Will's mom and sister are hosting one, a couple of my aunts and family friends are hosting one, and my co-workers are hosting a joint one for me and another one of our co-workers. Sawyer is already loved by so many people! We are so lucky and blessed.

Speaking of love.....

One more piece of the nursery puzzle

My mom was out the other day and found this wicker rocking chair for the nursery. It couldn't be more perfect. It doesn't take up too much space and it is really comfy! I am still trying to decide about the navy blue seat cushion. I might try and find a different one that fits the chair better. I can't wait for the sleepless nights rocking Sawyer. Well, I can wait for the sleepless part of the scenario. Everything is coming together just like I had planned in my head. We still need to pick out fabric for the pillow shams and curtains.

Nursery Update

Will and I, with the help of Will's dad, got alot done in the nursery this weekend. The bedding finally came in, so we were able to pick a paint color. We selected Carolina Skies, a Valspar Signature color from Lowe's. We love it and it looks perfect in the room. Once the room was painted, we arranged the furniture and hung some pictures. We still have some work to do, but we have made good progress.

The fabric ducky on the wall was in my nursery when I was a baby.

We will have a changing pad on top of the dresser. The drawers are being worked on because the bottoms are a little flimsy.

We will have white picture ledge shelves above the crib (high enough so that he can't reach them)

New pillow shams will coordinate with the madras bedding. We will also be getting a different side table and some sort of rocker/glider.

Close-up of the crib. I love the bedding!! The crab painting will go on one of the shelves above the crib, and the small pillow will either go on the bed or in the chair.

This weekend, the Junior League of Columbia hosted it's annual Clean Sweep yard sale. I worked a shift on Saturday morning. After my shift, I browsed through the baby section and scored big on baby clothes. I got Sawyer 16 very gently worn outfits for only $13!! I was very impressed with my luck and the great quality of items donated by Junior League members. Now that Sawyer's room is coming along, we can't wait for him to be here!! He still has some cooking to do though. We don't want to rush him.
